“To stop the flow of music would be like the stopping of time itself, • Donor Advised Funds Only the interest of the donation is used for specific purposes defined by the donor; this guarantees that the supported activity will continue year to year. In addition, it allows the donors’ name(s) to be connected with this sponsorship into perpetuity. Donor Advised Funds are usually given the name of the donor (e.g. the International Conductors Guild Fund), have a well-defined purpose (e.g. to support scholarships for conducting study at one of the International Conductors Guild sponsored Workshops for conductors over the age of 25) and are limited to a minimum amount before being operational (e.g. $10,000 to be fulfilled at $2,000/year for 5 years and which, after one year following maturity, produces 5% interest resulting in a scholarship of $500 per year).
• Planned Giving What is a planned gift? Planned gifts, or planned giving, are gifts that require planning either now or in the future. The most common planned gift is the simple charitable bequest, or a gift in a donor’s will. Life insurance policies are also a common planned gift. The benefit from these types of gifts comes later for the charity, but planned giving is frequently one of the larger gifts charities receive. While a gift in a will is the most common type of planned gift, not all planned gifts are deferred.
• Gifts from a Donor Advised Fund: If you have a donor-advised fund, please consider designating the International Conductors Guild for a grant. • Gifts from an IRA Rollover: This allows individuals who are older to donate money from their IRA accounts. • Year-End Giving: Year-end is a good time to consider certain types of planned giving. For example, many people who own stocks rebalance their portfolios toward the end of the year. While people tend to draft or update a will based on life events (e.g., marriage, birth of a child or grandchild, illness), some choose to write or update their will toward the end of the year. As you make these long-term financial decisions, please consider giving to the International Conductors Guild.
